2004-06-04, ehousethatwebuilt - Theater artist and social critic Kayhan Irani comes to Montreal, Canada, as part of The Infringement Festival, performing her acclaimed one-woman show, “We’ve Come Undone” June 17th and 19th.(PRWEB) June 7, 2004 -- Written and performed by Kayhan Irani, “We’ve Come Undone” presents the stories of women and girls directly effected by legislation created for the “War on Terror” and who are struggling to make sense of life in an America caught in the grip of uncertainty and doubt. With over 30 performances in the United States, “We’ve Come Undone” is poised for its International debut in Montreal, a city dealing with its own issues of refugee and immigrant rights. Since the passage of anti-terror legislation Bill C36 in Canada, which many claim to be almost as repressive as the USA PATRIOT ACT, Canada is a logical next stop for the show. Many pieces of Bill C36, such as Security Certificates which are used to detain individuals indefinitely, have the potential to create identical stories in Canada to those portrayed in the show. “We’ve Come Undone” may serve as a warning to Canadians of the destructive powers of this type of legislation and what the effects look like. Kayhan Irani created We’ve Come Undone out of a sincere desire to open communication “post 9/11” - a term so overused it has perhaps been rendered meaningless. Precisely because there are so few channels to facilitate the exploration of these doubts and fears communally, she finds joy in creating a safe space for open dialogue and interaction. Post-performance, Irani activates discussion and uses theater techniques, to involve her audience as both spectator and participant to activate community dialogue on all sides of these issues. Her work has been called “Moving” by Jews for Racial and Economic justice and “wonderfully performed” by The Washington Report on Middle East Affairs. “We’ve Come Undone” in Montreal at Le Swimming: 3643 St. Laurent Boulevard Thursday June 17th at 7pm and Saturday June 19th at 5pm and 8pm For additional information please contact Deanne Getreu at . “We’ve Come Undone” has been touring the United States for over a year. Excerpts of the show have aired on WBAI (Pacifica Radio in New York) and the full performance has been taped for Voice of America, an international multimedia broadcasting service funded by the U.S. government and available in over 55 countries.
