2005-01-18, OPERATION DOULA CARE - Operation Doula Care, an organization dedicated to supporting pregnant wives of deployed U.S. service men, announced today that it is expanding its scope of practice to include those affected by the recent tsunami.(PRWEB) January 18, 2005 -- Operation Doula Care, an organization dedicated to supporting pregnant wives of deployed U.S. service men, announced today that it is expanding its scope of practice to include those affected by the recent tsunami. “With the death toll at over 150,000 and rising, we are profoundly sad for the tragic loss of life and for those who were left behind to deal with the devastation. We know that we must do our part to support the military as they begin their relief assistance.” stated Stacey Carver, National Director of Operation Doula Care.
Operation Doula Care was originally formed in response to the events of September 11th, 2001. Doulas all over the United States came together to form America`s first ever "Doula Reserve". Their mission was to provide, FREE of charge, birth doula support to the pregnant wives of U.S. Military men (Active Duty, Reservists, National Guard, Coast Guard) that have been called up, deployed, injured or have become deceased as a direct result of any military action relating to the war against terrorism, but has since expanded their scope to include military relief missions. .
In a separate initiative, Operation Doula Care has also expanded its area of coverage to include all 50 states; a huge jump from the original 25. “We have been inundated with doulas who want to support our military families and our “reserve” is growing daily” said Carver.
